CITRIS Quest is a location-based scavenger hunt game that combines retro pixel art with augmented reality scanning. Explore UC campuses to discover and scan over 200 physical pixel art installations, earn XP, collect achievements, and compete on global leaderboards.

I created an account but can't log in Check your email inbox for a verification email from CITRIS Quest. You must verify your email before you can log in. If you don't see it, check your spam folder.
I forgot my password On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password?" and enter your email. You'll receive a password reset link via email.
Username or email already taken Each username and email can only be used once. Try a different username or use the password reset option if you already have an account.
Getting "Invalid username or password" Double-check your credentials. You can log in with either your username or email address. Remember that passwords are case-sensitive.
My scan says "IMAGE NOT RECOGNIZED" This means the AI couldn't identify the artwork with high confidence. Make sure you're:
"Too far from tag! You are Xm away, must be within Ym" You need to be physically closer to the artwork. Walk closer until you're within the required radius (shown in the error message), then try scanning again.
"Please wait X more minute(s) before scanning this artwork again" You can only scan each artwork once every 15 minutes. This prevents spam and keeps the game fair. Wait until the cooldown expires, then try again.
"TAG INACTIVE" This artwork is temporarily inactive and cannot be scanned. Check back later or try a different artwork.
My photo was saved to "offline gallery" instead of scanning This happens when:
Your photo is saved locally with location data. When you're back online, go to the gallery and tap "Upload Offline Scans" to process them and earn your XP/bits.
Classification took too long / Connection to server failed Your photo has been saved to your offline gallery. Try again when you have better internet connection, or upload your offline scans later from the gallery.
"Camera permission denied" Tap the message to request camera permission again. If it says "permanently denied," you'll need to:
"Location Services Disabled" Location is required to verify your scans. To enable:
"Location permission denied" Tap to request location permission again. If permanently denied, enable it in Settings → CITRIS Quest → Location.
"Unable to determine location" or "Location data is stale" Your GPS signal may be weak. Try:
"No camera available" Your device's camera is not accessible. Try:
"User not found" when adding friends Double-check the username spelling. Usernames are case-sensitive. The user must have an active CITRIS Quest account.
"You are already friends with this user" You've already added this person as a friend. Check your friends list.
Can't send a friend request Make sure you're logged in and have verified your email. You cannot send friend requests to yourself.
How do I change my privacy settings? Go to your profile settings to choose between:
Reporting a user If you encounter inappropriate behavior:
You cannot report yourself or report the same user twice.
"You can only equip up to 5 achievements" You've reached the maximum number of equipped achievements. Unequip one before equipping another.
"Purchase failed" Make sure you have enough bits for the purchase. If the error persists, try restarting the app or contact support.
